I woke up early the next morning. My sister was running around the house doing cheerleading flips. She had a competition coming up and her toe touches were not up to par, at least that’s what her cheerleading coach told her. After getting dressed and fixing breakfast we went out to the front yard to practice. It was Saturday and I was surprised to find both of my parents at home. I had gone to bed expecting that they would be at work forgetting that the weekend had arrived. My dad sat on the porch with his laptop and my mom cleaned up the house. My sister and I practiced toe touches and a few front flips before going back in to watch T.V. When we were finally done I checked my phone to see if Tori had called. He had called three times. I checked my text messages because I knew that he had sent a good five. As I expected he sent numerous text asking where I was at and why was I not answering my phone. I called him back immediately. He answered on the first ring.

“Hello.” Tori answered annoyed.

The tension was so thick through the phone I laughed to soften up the moment.

“Hey babe. I was outside with Barb. We were practicing her cheerleading jumps.” I responded.

“Oh. Cool. What time should I come over?” Tori asked

“Call my dad and let him know that you want to speak to him. He will tell you what a good time is for him.” I responded.

“Okay. Do you want to go with me to get your ring?” Tori asked.

“Do you want me to go?” I asked.

“Not really, but I want you to like it. I don’t have that much saved up for it so this will be a starter ring.” Tori responded.

“No problem baby. I’m surprised you have any money saved up with all of the shoes that you buy.” I responded.

“I’m about to call your dad. I’ll talk to you later.” Tori said.

“Okay. I love you.” I said.

“I love you too.” Tori said before hanging up the call.

Moments later I could hear my dad’s phone ringing. It was on the kitchen table, he was in his man cave. Eventually he would call Tori back and my life would be changing shortly after that. Or so I thought.

I went back and forth in my head about calling Tammy to tell her the news but I could not decide if that was a good idea or not. My mind was telling me that telling anyone would be a mistake. I laid around the house reading short stories that I had laying around. Reading kept my mind off of the things that I could not change and brought into perspective all of the things I had control over. High School was over, I was engaged and headed to college in a few months. I could change some things if I wanted to. But did I want change anything? I felt like I was playing a game of tug of war.
